If it's poison ivy, you'll have dark red patches that will spread over the body and begin to weep if you scratch them very much. Calamine lotion applied generously will dry it up. If the condition is all over your body, you may need to get a shot. I've had to have shots to help me at least twice. If you have chigger bites, there will be small bumps that will itch almost incessantly and they won't spread over your body. Generally, chigger bites are limited to the ankles and the waist band of your pants. They can be gotten rid of by applying a good oily body cream, or by painting every spot lightly with clear nail polish. Both cut the oxygen of the chigger which has embedded itself in your skin and is emitting a thinning agent into the blood stream in that area, causing that itch that drives you almost nuts. Cutting of the oxygen of course causes them to suffocate and the itch will go away almost overnight. It's a good old remedy I've used many times and which was given to me by my great grandmother.

If it turns out to be chiggers, (small red dots usually around ankles and groin area) apply clear nail polish to each bite. This will seal the opening and suffocate the chiggers. Otherwise make a mixture of 3 parts Campo Phenique to 1 part mineral oil. (Both available at any local drugstore.) Apply to affected area. The Min. oil again suffocates the bugs and the Campo heals the wound.

Rubbing alcohol for both. Even a spray deoderant will work. Chiggers burrow into your skin and leave a little welp, usually you can see them ,they are tiny red dots. Poison ivy causes blisters that itch and burst spreading the rash.
