YES! Bath, clean the cage regularly and let it our for excercise every day! Cleaning can actually help develope your bond with your guinea pig because it is very hands on.

Don't do this every week I would say twice a year.

Grooming/Nail Trimming

Long haired breeds should be brushed regularly with a soft brush. Baths can be given to guinea pigs. Line a sink with a towel or rag and bathe your guinea pig in a sink half full of lukewarm water. Use a mild pet shampoo only (do not use soaps or shampoos designed for people). Rinse thoroughly, and dry with a towel. A hair dryer set to a warm setting can also be used.

Nails need to be trimmed about every six weeks or as necessary. Consult a vet or knowledgeable person for instructions if hesitant. Care must be taken to avoid cutting the blood vessel in the centre of the nail. In good light this vessel is clearly visible. If accidentally severed use a product called "Quick-Stop" (available at pet stores) to stop the bleeding.

Only if _really_ necessary, like the pig wandered into something when running around (I have an albino guinea pig, and I don't know WHAT she gets into sometimes). It's not good for them to be bathed very often - overall it's unnecessary, for they do keep themselves clean, and they could catch a chill. Plus, being dunked even in a foot-bath terrorizes most pigs. It's something that's out of their control.

Only when they absolutely need it. Bathing guinea pigs too often can really dry out their skin. You'll want to use a special shampoo that is formulated for them (or bunnies).

Make sure not to get any shampoo or water in their ears. In fact just avoid the face all together. It is best to bathe them in a sink with about an inch or two of warm water. You should place a mat or face cloth in the sink as well for their comfort. Then rinse them real well.

After wards, towel dry them off completely or use a blow dryer on a low setting (but not too close to them). Make sure it doesn't get too hot.

Do NOT place them back in their cage until they are completely dry or they can become sick with a cold or other respiratory illness (which they can be highly susceptible of). Keep them in a warm area as well until they are dry (no fans or drafts).

The best web site I know of for guinea pig info is http://guineapigcages.com You can pretty much find anything you want to know about guinea pigs right there.

Guinea pigs seldom "need" baths and some are never bathed. But if they do require one, a shampoo formulated especially for small animals will help avoid drying their skin. Use a shallow bowl of warm water, rinse, and dry thoroughly to avoid chills before returning them to their home. Avoid getting water in their ears.

I never bathed the 2 I had. They are like cats and rabbits. They lick themselves clean.

No. Does not sound like a good idea. You know what you could do if it makes you feel better and you think he's a bit stinky... use some babywipes and give him a good petting. That shouldn't freak him out and it would clean up any problems just fine.

You can, but make sure to keep it warm. A good mild animal grooming shampoo should do the trick just fine.
