Because underneath their anger is pain. If they were not so wounded they would not be so hostile. Any animal that is physically, emotionally, or pschologically damaged will have certain character traits that may not make for a friendly pet. So these people that are the walking wounded need to begin the process of healing. So, as a society what are we teaching our children that they grow up so hostile?

Misery loves company. You didn't mention what people you're asking for advice, friends? family? both?
Friends tend to want you to stay the same and not change...and family tends to use your past as a way to measure your future.
Either way, if you don't feel good about the answers you're getting, I'd find someone else to talk to.

I'm sure they must be in pain from something they've done wrong (sarcasm). Some people do that; spread their pain to others so theyre not lonely--but with others they have so much it just leaks out. For more space to hold pain in just add growth hormone.

When they are down, they want to bring others down as well. People can be cruel, but there are many wonderful, caring compassionate people too.

Because being miserable and treating other people like dirt is every New Yorker's God-given right.

Maybe to make themselves feel better. If they see someone in more pain than they are it makes them happy because they think you are worst off than they are, Don't let their negativity get to you.

Depends what your past actions were. Other people just dont want you to be happy thats what life is about. People hate seeing people in a better position then what they are in.

Well boo-hoo.
Why don't you try letting everyone kiss your @ss so you can get out of your funk and go back to living? Screw anyone that wants to rip on you, tell anyone that criticizes you to pi$$ up a rope because you don't have time to hear it.

IT IS EASIER FOR SOME TO BRING OTHERS DOWN TO THE LEVEL OF INFERIORITY THAT THEY THEMSELVES FEEL, RATHER THAN RISE TO THE LEVEL OF SUPERIORITY THAT THEY FEEL OTHERS ARE AT.
POOR YOU. YOU SOUND LIKE YOU FEEL VICTIMIZED BY PEOPLE BECAUSE YOU HAVE A PAST AND YOU HAVE YET TO REDEEM YOURSELF TO OTHERS WHO KNOW IT. DON'T VOLUNTEER TO BE A VICTIM.
ONLY YOU CAN CHANGE WHAT OTHERS THINK OF YOU (BASED ON YOUR PAST). YOU CAN CHOOSE TO MAKE AMENDS, SHOW EMPATHY (EMPATHY DEMONSTRATES SINCERITY) AND BEHAVE IN A DIFFERENT MANNER. IT'S LIKE DESTROYING AN OLD REPUTATION BY CREATING A NEW ONE.
