Psychologist or Psychiatrist? I'm thinking of majoring in Psychology and I was wondering which of the 2 makes more money and why.

Regarding the psych field... if you hate what you do, it wont matter how much you get paid. I am in the psych field, I dont get paid the "big bucks," but I really love what I do.
I reccommend finding what you like as opposed to what makes more money.

A Phychiatrist Makes more money.. And they work more with people.. So if you like people and want to sit down for 2 hours or so and work with them this may be the job for you.... being a Psychiatrist you heal the problems and fix what has already been discovered.... As where a Psychologist discovers the problem adn then gives you the medications they don't help heal the mental part of it... Psychologist don't make much less money but does more of the perscribing the medications and making the decisions for what you need..

The Psychiatrist makes more money because he is an M.D. first. It takes 12 years to become a psychiatrist and 8 to get a P.H.D. in psychology.

Psychiatrists...they are medical doctors with a specialty...can prescribe drugs etc..big bucks..
Psychologists...poor cousin to the shrink...need PhD but can`t prescribe drugs and gets half as much money...

psychiatrist. they're MD'S. p.s. psychologists do more work. then refer patients to a psychiatrist who really only orders blood work and gives prescriptions for medication.
