My 5 month old baby girl has a very small appetite and she just does not show any interest in drinking formula even if she is hungry.
The formula is not giving her any kind of trouble .
She drinks only 3-4 ounces every 3-4 hrs.
Moreover I have been noticing that she hates the feeding sessions and is only interested in playing all day long even if she is starving.
I an having a very very hard time getting her to drink just the minimum about of formula that she is supposed to consume for her age and weight.
I would really appreciate any tips and advice on how to make the best of our feeding sessions and how I could get her to drink well.
The doc says she just has a small appetite .........but I just hate that as the doctor seems very laidback.
Thanks.

Ours did that too. He still isn't the chubby kind. On some photo's he looks like a 4 year old but he is only 19 months.

They told us the same and they were right. As long (and be sure you check this almost daily) the weight does not go down AT ALL there is no real problem. If your kid is happy and sleeps reasonably well she should do fine.

Ok, ok please RELAX AS I AM SURE THE DOCTOR KNOWS WHAT SHE/ HE IS DOING . I too have children problems but with my grandson of whom is now a little over the age of two now. All children i suppose go thru the stage of fussyness . Don't panic yet . I WOULD HOWEVER LISTEN TO THE GOOD OLE DOCTOR THOUGH CAUSE THEY DOOOOOOOOO know more than we as parents / grandparents give them credit for you know. I found that out just recently myself . The child will eat when they are hungry and NOT WHEN WE THINK THEY OR ARE MADE TO EAT ONLY MAKES THINGS OR A MATTERS MUCH WORSE . I would however stay in touch with the doctor and let him / her know what's going on from week to week. It would make your day go alot smoother know that you have that reasurance as a parent that the doctor is just a phone call away. Just keep on trying different ways to encourage the eating and if she doesn't eat don't force her, and that's probably what the doctor told you too right . !!! ?

Start her on rice cereal onece a day about 1 tbsp cereal and 1-3 ounces of formula mixed in make sure its watered down just a little thicker than water will do. At 6 months start stage 1 veggies then fruits.

Change doctors if you feel he/she is not on the same page with you.

Try adding a little rice cereal to the formula, or try changing formulas. they taste different. The rice cereal will add some calories. Try 1 tsp first, then increase to 1 tblsp per every 4 oz.

regrettably, flying with those who carry the hard opinion of answer #a million makes it complicated as a figure--you experience like you're continuously annoying someone. Flying with a 5 month previous should be somewhat basic. I flew with my son even as he changed into 2 months, 4 months, 7 months, and a million 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. make sure to have a bottle, pacifier, (or the boob & a shelter!) waiting once the airplane starts starting up off. you may want to that you've the toddler suck on something till you attain the flying altitude. (Which takes position merely when they initiate passing out beverages.) The sucking reaction may actually help the toddler's ears pop. do this on the way down too. on condition that your toddler is 5 months previous, s/he's likely searching at issues quite nicely by now. Have new toys or exciting issues for them to carry. Or, even better effective, attempt to plot nap time for in the course of the flight. in case your toddler is going down truly, that's like gold. in case your toddler would not go down truly, you better effective no longer attempt it--the overly drained toddler would insist on crying the completed flight. My pediatrician stated that I provide my toddler a small dose of Tylenol. in my opinion, I merely like giving it to him even as he's teething and hurting...yet have carried it on the flights in case it went extraordinarily incorrect. Your toddler's at an outstanding age to fly...previous sufficient to holiday...youthful sufficient no longer to opt to crawl/walk/locate. the finished project is to be calm. if you're calm, your toddler will be calm. with slightly of success you'll sit down next to someone who's had a baby. Months 2 & 4 were the finest for flying with my son. reliable success!

Formulas do taste different as someone else mentioned. I tasted the two biggest brands myself, out of curiosity. One definitely tasted better to me than the other. And definitely change doctors if you don't feel confident in his/her care for your child.

The funny thing here is that babies are smarted thatn we are. The child will eat when it is hungry, I had the same concern with my first and he is noe 6'3" tall and I can't get him to stop eating. If the baby is healthy than there is NO WORRY>

I don't know what you can do if she refuses. If she is not loosing weight, maybe your doctor is right. BUT I would get another doctor if I were you. You obviously don't agree with yours and are not satisfied with your care you're getting. Find one who is more suited to your style of parenting.

It never hurts to get a second opinion. This worries and you know your baby best. Maybe just to put your mind at rest get a second opinion.
