no. anti-depressant pills are drugs ( not bad drugs ), and while you take it it might affect the baby in a bad way. try asking a doctor for another way.

however, if you have a serious condition that includes severly on taking the pills, then ask a doctor about it.

You need to go off it. It is not a medication proven safe for pregnancy. I am bipolar and pregnant with my second child and went off my meds for both pregnancies. The hormones from the pregnancy help my moods a lot, and therapy does the rest. It is important that you have a good support system in place. I was off the meds until I finished breastfeeding, then went back on them, and plan to do the same thing this time. There are moments where I have some low points, but my support system helps me through it. The medication's risks to your baby are not worth it. Being a mom is often about sacrifice, and that starts at pre-conception. There are a lot of books out there about pregnancy and depression. You can do it--just make sure you have help. Good luck.

this question is good, and the answers you have recieved are not! (for the most part). i am pregnant and on zoloft. it is true that it is a class C drug-which means it is not proven safe in pregnancy, but it is notproven unsafe either...or it would be black boxed (like Paxil is). it is ideal to get off your meds while preggo, but not necessary for a normal healthy pregnancy. your baby will suffer if you are not in good mental health during pregnancy (even if that means you are not coping well with stress). and that is proven. talk to a doc before trying to pregnant. they will help you decide on your best course of action, and set you up with some prenatal vitamins and tips on getting healthy for pregnancy. if you decide to stay on the pills, don't abruptly stop and start them though, that's not good for you or baby!

most doctors weigh the benefits vs the risks. most antidepressants are relatively new drugs and just haven't been tested that much in pregnancy. if you can go off it, that's good, but if you're going to be suicidal and unable to cope with everyday life stresses (which will no doubt increase during the pregnanct), then it's beneficial for you to stay on the pill.

Talk to you gyn about it. He or she may know which antidepressants are known to be safer in pregnancy.

here's how it works with depression and pregnancy.
if you can bare the depression (and not take the pills), it's better not to take ANYTHING (any pills) while pregnant

but

if you will be super depressed if you are off the pills, then you are better off TAKING THE DEPRESSION PILLS WHILE YOU ARE PREGNANT because depression is more detrimental to your baby then taking the pills

See your doctor. Maybe you should also get some counseling, this can help you deal with some of your problems as you face pregnancy. (You shouldn't take anti depression pills while your pregnant)

ACCORDING TO ZOLOFT WEBSITE, IT'S SAFE TO TAKE WHILE PREGNANT. ASK YOUR DR IF YOU WANT TO BE FOR SURE. I WILL AS SOON AS I FIND OUT WHETHER OR NOT I AM.
