where are they at

The highest energy levels are the periods of the Table. Hydrogen and helium have the first energy level as their highest, the lithium-neon row has the second energy level as its highest, sodium-argon is the third level, etc.

BTW, I've been a practicing chemist for well over 20 years, and I have NEVER heard anyone refer to the transition series and the lanthanide/actinides as the "courtyard" and the "dungeon." That might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard in chemistry.

They're the periods (I think...well they're the rows..) everything sticking up out of "the courtyard" and out of "the dungeon" has this applied to it, for every level down it has an energy level, the reason there's an exception for the middle and the bottom is because....well....there is, don't make me get into that.

By the way the courtyard is that area with all the metals that starts at the furthest down on the table in the middle, element 21 through element 30 and everyhting directly below them, the dungeon is that piece that hangs off the bottom.

the link below doesn't have it on the table itself, but if you're looking for the ionization energy it tells it for each element.
