Let x and y be the two whole numbers
Their product is 1122
xy = 1122
Their difference is 1
x - y = 1
Solve the above equation for x.
x = y + 1
Replace x with y+1 in the first equation
(y+1)(y) = 1122
Distribute the y
y^2 + y = 1122
Subtract 1122 from each side.
y^2 + y - 1122 = 0
Factor
(x-33)(x+34) = 0
Set each part equal to zero.
x = 33 or x = -34
-34 is not a whole number.
Answer: 33 and 34
Check by multiplying 33 times 34.

I would break 1122 down to its prime #'s
1122 = 2 * 561
1122 = 2 (3*187)
1122 = 2 * 3 * (11*17)

So using prime #'s 2,3,11, and 17:
11*3=33
2*17=34

The numbers are 33 and 34.

That is easy! 33x34=1122 their difference is 1 :)! oops, I just noticed everyone else had answered your question already. I used similar method as to the person who said find out what the square root is and then play with the numbers and get the result of 33 and 34.

an easier way...
[product is multiplication.]
find the square root of 1122 as a starting point (ignore the decimals) so you know where abouts the numbers are.

then just try a few things out... the answer is 33 and 34
