okay I am 35 weeks pregnant and I have had heartburn the whole time but the last two weeks have been killer. Tums arent working anymore, and saltines arent either. I know dairy is bad but all I crave is chocolate ice cream and milk shakes. I was told that makes it worse. I have been waking up at night its so bad. Any more suggestions besides tums and saltines because they arent doing it. Im seeing the doc. on wed. but just wondering till then. Also I have been having these needle like pains at the bottom of my stomach in between my pelvic bones, my friend told me that was my body softening my cervix and me starting to dialate..is this true? Thanks for all your help!

You usually feel cramping when you're dialating, sharp pains is usually ligament pain from being so stretched. I don't see why ice cream wouldn't work for the heartburn but chocolate would make it worse. With my first I had nexium because the heartburn was so bad, that is a prescription. With my second tums worked nicely. Part of it too is learnign to avoid foods that give you bad heartburn, which unfortunatly is a lot of food while pregnant. Good luck!! You're almost there!

I'm 36 weeks, and the heartburn is a lot worse than it was before for me too. I lay on my left side at night which helps, or if it's really bad, I try to sleep propped up. I was also told to limit the amount of food I eat after about 7:00 pm. I usually takes Tums Smoothies before I go to bed whether I need them or not. Once your baby starts dropping, it should ease up a little bit, because there will be more room in there. I think for the most part, pregnant women tend to wake up more at this point in pregnancy anyway. (I know I do!!!)
The needle-like pains could be the softening of the cervix, I would just mention it to the doctor next time. There is also a major ligament that runs from your back to the lower sides of the uterus which stretches at this time. Mine gave me a lot of pain, that could be what you are experiencing as well.
Good luck with the heartburn, you only have a few weeks left. Hang in there!

"MYLANTA" it's a life saver I used it when I was pregnant because I kept heartburn all the time but one thing you do need
to know if you don't already is to never lay down while you have
these heartburns because I have heard some pretty bad things
that has happened to people. but anyways I bet that your baby
will have a head full of hair. I don't know if you ever heard the
old saying about having frequent heartburns while you are pregnant or not but they say that if you have constant heartburns then that means that your baby will have a lot of hair, I know that
mine did so congradulations and best of luck!

OUCH! If you are experiencing the heartburn at night, and you are having reflux, sleep with your upper torso elevated. I had reflux and it backed into my lungs and that really sucks! Painful and doesn't stop or go away for a long time.
Try eating rice and chicken, things that are tasty LOL! That is what worked for me.
Hang in there, you don't have much more time to go! PS It doesn't mean the baby will have a full head of hair either LOL one had a full head the other bald!

When I was pregnant I had heartburn during the whole dang thing! It was so bad I couldn't sleep at night. The doctor prescribed me Zantac 175 I think and that did the trick. Talk to your doctor and ask him about prescribing you some just for a trial and if it works maybe he can give your a prescription during the rest of the pregnancy. It is usually because of the baby moving around with no room. (or so my doc told me). I started dialating a month before I had my daughter. I stayed at 3 cm for a month! LOL. Don't worry, just talk to your doctor and see what he suggests since everyone is different. Best of Luck and congrats on the new baby.

I'm 25 weeks with awful heartburn too. Ive found that anytime I feel burning, if I drink water, it makes me feel better. Also, avoid foods that are spicy or greasy or that have caffeine.
You're almost done! You can deal with this!
One more thing, don't lay down after eating... Sitting up makes heartburn better.

Remember to eat small meals instead of large ones and 2-3 hours before you lay down. Try putting extra pillows behind you to prop you up more so you're not laying completely flat. I don't know who told you about the dairy thing, but I've always found plain milk to be helpful. Use a liquid antacid such as Maalox, not chewable tablets; you need something that coats the stomach and is safe to take while pregnant. I hope these help!

I don't know, Tums worked for me. That's all they told me I could take. My mom said to drink tea with a little honey and eat dry toast, it's supposed to help. Ask your doctor if there is anything you can take besides the tums. When I went in to have the baby they gave me a foamy drink and it stopped the heartburn, maybe there is something like that they can give you.

I am also 35 weeks. I get really bad heartburn to. I dont know who told you dairy is bad. My doctor told me to drink milk to calm heartburn and it works. Not chocolate though, it makes it worse.
