I have heard this expression used to describe a type of music, a type of personality and a type of lifestyle. What is it? Like Goth or something? What is the EMO music? Like rock? Metal? Disco? What does it mean to " be" EMO?

I`m sorry if this question is old and the subject is tired for some of you but I didn`t know lots of people had asked this question already and I just needed help understanding the meaning and didn`t know where else to get it. No need to be mean or gripe at me for asking it!

Emo is a hip goth gone sappy. Emo is short for emotional, and emo kids...are really in touch with their feelings, lets say. Society can be so dumb. I really dont believe in labels, I dont think people should be classified into a type. But from what I've heard from others, thats what emo is, and from actual "emo-ist"s themselves. The music is basically the juice from an emo lemon. It's rock music with sad voices, bands with the sideswept bangs, black and lyrics that make you want to slit your wrists and cry all night.

Derived from 'emotional' EMO is a fad marked by very expressive sadness, self-pity, tight jeans, long hair. Guys who are emo wear makeup, look very metrosexual, even effeminate.

Emo is emotional kids who haven't really figured out who they are yet. To me they are really messed up and need some serious counseling.

"Emo" is short for emotional. it's a kind of music. most of the kids i've seen that are emo dress like girls. they were tight girl jeans, with tight t-shirts. they usually die their hair black and have tapered bangs. They say t that when they dress like this they can express themselves more...?, but they say they aren't gay. but i know a few that are bi at least.

Depressed people who think that they are cool because they listen to really crappy music that is not harcore punk and want to slit their wrists but dont do it because their too depressed even to do that.

emotional. they are always felling sad and sumtimes slitting their wrists, and they have hair that cover their faces and they sorta dress like punk or goth or skater

emo is usually refered to poser punks. people who act tough but are actually pussys. most emo music is about self pity. its really sad. a few examples of emo are killers, afi, and well i dunno i dont pay enough attention. but the **** sucks. real lame.
