I am interested to know how you would feel if you just found out at age 52 that you were of First Nations ancestry I was adopted and have been told all my life that I am English. I have very fair skin and passed easily as a white person. I have known in my heart and soul that I was First Nations for a very long time, but recently have had it confirmed by a search for by biological parents. I was fortunate to get their names through researching my adoption and Vital Statics. Both my adopted partents are in the spirit world now so I can ask them WHY they never told me. Don't get me wrong I am very PROUD to be who I am. It was hard for all those years not knowng who I was and where I belonged. Do you think it was right to keep my ancestry from me ????

right? no! but did they know?
And you may need to put things into perspective: even if they knew: 52 years ago, it was probably not something easy to talk about. adoption is such an emotionally charged process, no one know what is best! if they made an error in judgement, please make your peace with them. They did their best.

There are probably several factors that took place when you were little. The only people who can provide this info is no longer with you, so I would believe they didn't say anything to you about your ancestry for your own benefit. Since they are not here to ask, I wouldn't judge your loved ones because of things they kept from you, especially if it protected you.

What the heck is First Nation Heritage anyway? Be grateful they took you in, raised you, loved you, did the best they could and made the best decisions they felt were right.

Parents don't always do what is right, but they usually try to do what they think is best.
