I agree, a loved lord is one that would throw those elaborate parades, which are fun at the time, but come time to pay for the parades, its the peasants that feel the burden. A hated lord, will have the respect of the peasants, they'll also less likely to throw a revolt, for they fear the lord. Its the same in business, you must be solid and firm, you cannot succeed with a weak will.

If you actually read "The Prince" Machiavelli looks like a pussycat compared to modern politicians.

Unfortunately, this is all too true, and therefore so much negative behavior get propagated hurting a lot of people in so many organizations, large and small. That was so before Machialelli wrote his book, and that continued and, sadly will go on into the future.
