I really like the way they look, but have been told not to buy them because they are unhealthy, and a man made? Not of nature?

Blood Parrots are a hybrid of a Red Devil and a Severum. The reddish color is natural and from my experience working in a petstore and owning parrots of my own, they are quite healthy. Mine lived for a few years and grew to the size of a dinner plate. One juvenile I have had for a few months grew a bright purple streak on her right side this past weekend! I never had any health problems with them.

Jellybean parrots on the otherhand are dyed. From what I've seen they haven't had many health problems but they don't grow as large or as quickly at least.

The Red Parrot is sometimes referred to as the Blood Red Parrot and is the result of crossbreeding different Central American Cichlids. As a juvenile, they are dark in color, and they gain the red coloration as they mature. The Red Parrot is normally infertile and will not successfully breed in the aquarium. They may lay eggs in a cave, but because the males are often times infertile, the usually will not develop.

parrot cichlids are hybreds, while in the late 1970 there was a classed cichlid that was named the parrot cichlid, that fish is rarely exported.

common parrots are man made in either two ways. breeding convict cichlids to severums, or severums to red devils. You can tell they are hybreds as they can't close their mouths.

the true color of parrots is it starts out black and turns into a yellowish orange.

color injected parrots come in colors like red, blue, white, green etc.... these fishes are injected, but when you get them it really doesn't make a difference as the color usually fades within 4-5 months.

they dont seem to be unhealthy as i still have my original parrots that are over 11 years old.

Blood Parrots are cross bred. They do not happen naturally. However, they now can bred amoung themselves. The colour is supposed to be Red (as in the name blood). If there is any other colour, it means they are injected with ink.
