Provided you are using filtration and a heater, my suggestions would be a Pit Bull Pleco-very nice and stays small(not as name implies) or the Albino Ancistrus Pleco. You will have to feed the Ancistrus once it runs out of algae. This is easy . Purchase one fresh zucchini, bring water to boil in pot, chop zucchini in 1" pieces and dunk in boiling water. Remove after a minute. Then set aside to cool. Freeze all the chunks, then feed one at a time to the Pleco. Your last choice is a Rams horn snail. This snail does not easily reproduce like Mystery snails. Now if you meant bottom dwelling cleaning fish, then an Albino Corydoras is versatile, gets along with the Rams horn and doesn't need a heater.

Depends on what kind of cleaner you want...
For extra food along the bottom maybe a cory cat. They stay small, they won't harm your betta and the betta should leave him alone.
For algae either a Pit Bull Pleco or an Ottocinclus. Both stay small and again, shouldn't interfere with the betta.

The best cleaner fish so far is an amour catfish. It will also clean the alga off the glass tank. Else you may want to buy shrimps, it's called Yamato Shrimps. Also very good in cleaning those dark green stuffs in the tank. Get the adult size Yamato, your beta should not be able to eat them.

Yes you can put other fish with a betta...just not another male betta. Ya'll obviously have interen....look it up. Anyways...in my opinion a Chinease Algae Eater would be your best bet. They can be bought at any Wal-Mart for a low price....They are very hardy...and stay at a reasonable size for your 5 gallon tank.

Khuli loaches are small, don't upset the betta (tend to only come out at night), and are very good at getting into nooks and crannies for uneaten food. Large snails are good for eating algae without too large a bio-load

If you are looking for something to eat the alage its best to use a snail in that small of tank. There are different types of snails that are somewhat attractive and they are inexpensive.

YOUR BEST BET IS A SNAIL OR A CORY CAT. THE CORY CATS ARE BOTTOM FEEDERS AND WILL HELP KEEP YOUR GRAVEL CLEAN. HOWEVER, THE SNAILS WILL KEEP YOUR GLASS CLEAN AS WELL AS YOUR GRAVEL. BUT IF YOU HAVE LIVE PLANTS IN YOUR TANK, IT IS BEST NOT TO KEEP SNAILS AS THEY WILL EAT THE PLANTS.
