It's a matter of hygiene. A recent study revealed that circumcised gay males are 60% less likely to contract AIDS.

Ephesians 2:8 says that For it is by grace that you are saved through faith; not of your doing; it is a gift of God: verse 9 says Not of works, lest any man should boast. Verse 10 For we are his creation, created through Jesus Christ ultimately for good works, and God has before ordained that we should live in them.
Now, verse 11 is very important to the answer which says Wherefore remember that you were Gentiles in the flesh from the beginning, and you were called Uncircumcision, differing from that which is called Circumcision, which is the work of the hands in the flesh.

Why? Paul says behold I tell you that if you are circumcised, then Christ is of no benefit to you. Why? because you have ceased to adhere to Christ instead seek justification by the law; you are fallen from the grace. Other sources referring to this subject go to 1st Corinthian 7:18, Romans 2:25, 9:31 and Acts Chapter 15 and Galatian 6:15.

Whether it was considered a hygiene fix currently or not doesn't matter. God had Abraham circumcise all Hebrew males as a sign of the covenant between them. When it came to marriage Jews were to stay within the covenant .A father would be sure his daughter would marry properly he would check him out.
No man would have that done as an adult just to get a broad. It never was instituted by doctors.
The reason they circumcised on the 8th day
is because the clotting factor is higher on that day than at any time until a child is 5 years old.

It used to be a religious practice of Jewish people. Soon it became common practice in the US. At first it was thought to be more hygienic but that is not the case. Many are opting to not have their sons circumcised. As long as you pull back the skin and clean the area then you will have not problems. I hated doing it when I was a nurses aide. If the area wasn't cleaned in a while it smelled awful.

Because a long time ago, they knew that the foreskin was responsible for a feeling of a special bond between a man and woman; and removing it made it more likely the woman would seek God instead.

It is solely a religious procedure. It decreases sexual pleasure, and causes so much pain in the child, that they go into a state of catatonic shock which people mistake for peace.

The foreskin protects the glans (the penis head) and provides more sexual stimulation for both partners.

For men, particularly those that live in hot, desert countries, I can understand it from a health point of view, but I never can understand it from a religious point of view.

This is a valid question I've often wondered myself. I think they're may be more religious reasons for this custom than medical.
