Kinetic energy is the energy possed by the mass by virtue of its motion. The other energy is potential energy. This is the mass said to have because of the virtue of its position. The kinetic energy example is a moving car. Even you can call Tsunami.That will posses kinetic energy when it travels in sea. The water before rising at the shore will have kinetic energy after it achieved the height the energy converted in to potential energy.The formula for Kinetic energy is 1/2 M.V.^2. Where M is the mass and V is the velocity. The potential energy is MGH where the G is the gravitational force and the H is the height. The stored water in an over head tank is said to posses potential energy.
