all you have to do is multiply the numbers together. And a negative times a negative equals a positive, so now you know this (if you didn't know already)

Now break down the problem.
(-5)(-5)=25 and (-5)(-5)=25
(25)(25)=625

Oh yeah another thing.

2 answers below me, Jak told you the wrong thing it is opposite of what he says.

(-5)^4 = 625, take it step by step first. Look at the exponent 4 and because its even that means that the answer will be positive. Just take it like 5 x 5, which is 25, then 25 x 5, which is 125. Then do 125 x 5 again which is 625. Its not that bad, just take it step by step, you'll be fine. Good luck : )

Ok, Multipliing a negative number by a negative number, such as -5 Times -5 will equal a positive number, 25. Multiply it again by -5 and you get a negative number, -125. Once more by -5, (2 negative numbers always equals postive when multiplied) and you get 625. That same rule applies for all math related functions in multiplieing.

If you have -5 to the fourth power, you need to mutliply -5 times itself four times (-5 x -5 x -5 x -5) and then you will get 625. If you were to have -5 to the third power, you would multiply -5 times itself three times (-5 x -5 x -5) and your answer would be -125. Remember that two negetives cancel out and make a positive. That is why -5 to the fourth power will equal a positive number and -5 to the third power will equal a negetive number.

5^(-2) = a million/5^2 (any detrimental exponent is an same as a million over that form to the effective style of that exponent) (-2)^2/5 = 4/5 (any detrimental situations a detrimental is a stunning, so -2 squared is an same as -2 situations -2, it truly is 4) 2x^-3 / 5y = 2/5x^3y (following the same good judgment because the first project) o.k., with that very last project i presumed the 2x wasn't in parentheses, because no matter if it isn't than merely the x is to the detrimental third. If that is in parentheses, although, it will be a million/40x^3y. yet yeah, if that is not any longer in parentheses that is what i reported the first time.

when u multiply an even # of negatives u get a positive...look

-5 to the 2nd pwer= (-5)(-5)=25
-5 to the 3rd power= (-5)(-5)(-5)= -125
-5 to 4th power = (-5)(-5)(-5)(-5)= 625

-5 to the fourth power is four negative fives multiplied together. like signs multiplied together give a positive answer, unlike signs a negative answer. An even number of negative signs results in a positive answer. An uneven number of negative signs is a negative answer.

The reason the answer is negative is simple.

Whenever you have a number to a neg power, do the problem like usual, if the exponent is odd (1,3,5,7...etc) the answer will be negative.

If the exponenet is even (2,4,6,8) then the answer will be even.

Hope this helps you.
