While you could certainly find a tiny hamlet or two (or more) that wouldn't have phone service, I promise you that there is no place in America large enough to be classified as a city that doesn't have landline phone service.

There are many places on the Indian reservations that do not have landlines. Coalmine Mesa (approx. 1 1/2 hours north of Flagstaff, AZ) has no landlines. They have some cell service or satellite service.

I'll offer you the following site - a 2005 news article that tells of one of the last towns in America to receive phone service. If it wasn't in Lousiana, I'd be motivated to start packing tonight and be on the road by morning.

On the news aprox two years ago they did a bit on a town in washington up in the woods/hills maybe moutains who had no phones they did teh story on no phones or internet they had to use SATs for communications
