That's a tough one..hmmm...while putting ot back you may be seen as someone TAKING the item. THAT would be awful!!! If you take it to the store manager, that might backfire, too. Maybe your punishment isTHIS MESS you're in...you want to do right but it may cause more problems. Depending on what it is,it's value, etc.,it may be better to just give it to someone who could REALLY use it. Then, one day when you are in the store, over pay the teller. When he/she says you've over paid, tell him that you're paying back money that was given to you,by mistake, after an earlier transaction. Hmmm..this is getting complicated. I think this REALLY is your punishment. I think you've learned your lesson. It's good you have a conscience....next time listen to it BEFORE you do something you KNOW you'll regret. Good luck.

i would feel really guilty and i would put it back on the shelf. if i got caught i would tell them the truth. if i were to steal something from the store, it would most likely be because i had no money and i was starving. i wouldn't steal something just because i wanted it and didn't really need it

Well, I would not recommend getting caught putting it back. My daughter, when she was 5 took a necklace and I made her take it and put it back but I certainly did not notify anyone. What is the point of that form of remorse if you go to jail over it? Murder is a different matter, however. You can't put back the life you took. Butt, I digress. And it's a BIG Butt!

Take this risk. Why don't you tell them that you took it? I work in retail and even though usually it is a little kid that takes stuff the parents make them give it back. I am sure, almost 100% sure that you will not get in trouble for being honest.

As long as you don't get caught putting it back on the shelf.
But i would say,at least you feel guilty and want to put it back.So that is what you should do.And tell no one.You will feel good inside.

Had you left the store? Or were you still inside?
If you had left the store, then I don't know.
But if you were still inside, then by all means, putting it back would be the right thing to do.

Personally, I would own up to it and ask forgivness. Otherwise, I could not go on. Age may be a deciding factor in this as well.

You think you can un-steal????????????? The only way to rid yourself of deserved guilt is to face it. Take it back and tell them what you did. The truth shall set you free.
