You can soak it in bleach, but you will have to rinse it for quite a while until ALL of the bleach smell is gone.

A better method would be to bake it in an oven set at 200F for 20 minutes. This will kill everything in and on the stick, and you won't have to worry about your snake coming in contact with harsh chemical such as bleach.

Good luck!

It is usually better to bake it.

Clean off all crud, loose branches or bark, etc. then set it on some foil (to keep the stove clean) in about 2-300 degrees for a while. I'd leave it in there for a half hour.

If it smokes, take it out and reduce heat. if it stinks, toss it and try a different branch.

Of course, I've used a lot of just plain branches with no special treatment (other than having been naturally dried and inspected for insect infestations) with no problems.

Well you can get sticks for the outside...but do not soak them in bleach...just put them in you basement or somewhere warm and dry and let them dry out for at least 3 weeks...after that they should be fine to put into a cage....ive done this before and it workds great cause plants and stuff at pet stores are real expensive.

YES you can use sticks and branches from outside. You'll need to put them in the bath tub and soak them in water that is verry verry hot.I use the water from the kettle and just dump it on the branches for my snkaes.Just dont get a stick or branch that has sap on it

No. The odor can cause them to loose their sense of smell. Microwave it instead.
