A plan to give Europe access to a substantial amount of natural gas from the giant Shtokman field originally earmarked for the U.S. market is a direct consequence of U.S. policy toward Russia on WTO membership and sanctions on Russian defense exports, Russian newspapers reported on Monday, Sept. 25.

American foreign policy at its most pathologically short-sighted has generated this outcome, and members of the administration have no one but themselves to blame.

Yeah, I don't understand why we are not getting cozier with Russia. They have the same problems we do with terrorists and maybe even a little bit worse.

The Russians have huge supplies of oil and natural gas. We should have brought them right into the WTO to be a bud and help us wax the Islamo nut jobs. They don't have any problem doing the hard jobs.

I agree with you it is very short sighted. And the Russians are really trying to make Democracy work. But like all people they want security, jobs, food, shelter first and Putin is trying to make those things happen quickly. If he doesn't Democracy will be at risk there as the old guard try to convince people that life was better under the Soviet.

Musharraf, of Pakistan? Big joke, he is taking Bush for a ride. Olmert? You can have him all to yourself, nobody wants him anyway. Who else? Get your house in order!

Sounds like you have a bias in this answer already.

You must not be old enough to remember that the Russians said we would be eventually destroyed. They are still working at it.
