I'm writing a new short story for my own good because I love to write. Can some one please give me some dark adjectives to describe darkness around a person and a creepy dark alley?

The alley, devoid of light, made the hair on the back of her neck stand on end.
A cloud drifted across the moon, shielding the alley from its only light source. I shivered, wondering what awaited me in the darkness.
He felt the fear like icy fingers racing down his spine as his flashlight winked out, leaving him in total darkness.
You can also try looking in a thesaurus...it's a writer's best friend!
