Make it MANDITORY??? ARE YOU A COMMUNIST?
When the people get educated is when apothy will slow down.
An educated population is dangerous for a ruling government. Especially a government of people who want to become socialist.
I think that the Conservitive movment had a good start, and needs to find good leadership to give it more steam. The conservitives have a much better outlook on Democracy and what they feel that America was designed to be.
I have several issues that I hold dear to my heart that the conservitive movment seems to be pushing for:
1. Church and Faith comes first.
2. Equal rights for ALL. No favortism because of race.
3. Fair Taxation. Everyone should be taxed at equal percentages. Naturally the more you make the more you owe.
4. Pro-Life. It is MURDER to abort a child. Especially at the 3rd trimester. If you want to have sex, be prepared to be a parent.
5. Government releases control of issues that belong to the State
6. Marriage is between a man and a women.

Oh god, please dont.
The problem with our system is that too many people vote who dont study politics. They vote based on the 30 second ads they catch while watching Judge Judy, or based on the "feel" they get from the look of the candidate. So, we have attractive candidates who are corrupt, evil, and stupid.
When people study politics, they cant help but want to vote. So they do. The people who dont vote dont study politics. Unfortunately there are also people who dont study but do vote. The last thing we need is to encourage more of the politically ignorant to get out and vote.
"As democracy is perfected, the office of
president represents, more and more closely,
the inner soul of the people. On some great and
glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach
their heart's desire at last and the White House
will be adorned by a downright moron."
-- H.L. Mencken (1880-1956)

That's a good question. I guess the best way is to teach your kids that it's our duty to vote. If you don't vote, you don't have the right to complain. If there's not a candidate that's worth voting for, maybe you should run. There's NO excuse for not voting. Even writing in Donald Duck is better than not showing up. Actually, I think he gets more votes than some of the ones running! <*)))><

Be the change you wish to see. Politics are for those who get involved. You can start a blog, you can start a voter registration campaign or join one, you can have talks with people one at a time or with a presentations explaining why it is important to vote.
By doing this you are fully taking advantage of the beauty of the democratic process.
statistics prove that if you get a person to vote once, they are more likely to partake in the process again and become a regular voter.
It worked for me!

The world is watching the elections closely, and are EXPECTING the US voters to show some responsibility and care. If you fail us, your 'insecurity' problem will increase a hundredfold. We are tired of your lying, idiot President's antics.
(Witness the huge applause for the 'clown' Chavez at the UN, and this could only be the beginning.)
Some of you will now say: 'We will elect who we wish', well, go ahead, but don't underestimate the rest of the world's anger.
Bush has made OUR world a very dangerous place.

We need to insure fair, open and honest elections. The last two presidential elections with their doubts of who actually won has driven people away from the polls. We need quality candidates, when is the last campaign that you saw no negative ads. I can't remember when the last one was where the candidates ran on the issues. Both party's are guilty of this.

Looks like you got your answer, most of the people here think the class you are speaking of are some how sub-human, that is of course why the disenfranchised have given up. They perceive that they are no connected to the nation, just floating as the tide directs.

By giving them real options instead of money hungry Democrats and Republicans. Anyone who thinks voting Dems is going to change the country is foolish.

You can encourage me to vote by dropping a bomb on the U.S. Supreme Court building, as well as the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts. If those corrupt bastards are eliminated so that we can make our laws ourselves instead of having them un-made by the Supreme Dictators, then I'll vote.
