My mom accidently deleted some file that controlled the volume. I learned this when i opened limewire to play music and nothing would play. For those of you familiar with LimeWire you know that there is the play bar in the lower right hand corner. When i click on a song to play not only do i not hear anything but limewire shows no evidence that a song is even being played. I went to the control panel and sound devices to check if it was deleted. It said that there was NO sound device detected. Unfortunately this is all i know of the problem. But NO sound will play anywhere. My speakers are fine also. I use Windows XP and my computer is an EMachines model. If anyone has any info on how to fix this problem please let me know. Thanks.

LimeWire isnt the problem. I also tried playing music on iTunes Real Player and Windows Player. I even tried playing music on myspace profiles. All Nothing...

Open your control panel and click 'Add New Hardware' and let it search for the hardware device. Also since your usings windows XP a system restore should fix this if it was recent.
to get to system restore:
click the start button
highlight 'all program'
highlight 'accessories'
highlight 'system tools'
click on 'system restore'
pick a date where you knew that this was problem was fix
and then you can just restore it and it should work.

I have had a similar problem. For starters make sure all speakers are plugged into the back of the computer. Test that they work using songs from Windows Media or Itunes. If it works, make sure the volume bar in Limewire is at or near the top. Additionally, make sure that the speakers are on and not muted. If no sound persists, then reinstall limwire (no files are lost), restart the computer, or consult another computer technician.

sounds like a driver problem to me and the only way to make sure is to go to start my music and play there sample music they put on ur computer if it doesnt work then i would try a full system restore however if u have an emachines which u stated that u did then when u restore it dont push "R" push f11 instead that will restore ur whole computer with the drivers where as if u push R it wont restore it all the way its only a half restore and it dont put drivers and if that dont work call emachines they are great help!

Start --> Control Panel --> Sounds. Look for sound devices, if none are available, you need to reinstall the driver for it.

How? Depends on what sound card you have. If you just have the sound card from the original PC, open up device manager and have it search automatically for it. Sometimes, it will ask if you want to go to the internet to find it. Select yes for that and it will search. Otherwise, contact vendor and ask what driver you'll need.

kinda sounds like its the limewire program not playing the song? did you try playing or making sounds from other programs on your computer... you might be able to "restore" your computer to an earlier date, such as, BEFORE your mom deleted the stuff! good luck!

If you have msn messenger - go to the sound test. If the test fails it will prompt you if you want to 'repair it'. Clk yes and give it a try. That fixed mine when I had a 'no sound' problem, but I don't think I had any deleted files.
Good Luck
