In particular, one where homosexuals are locked up in prisons and executed?

It's not like they haven't tried to exterminate us before.

Yes, I do. I also think it isn't only homosexuals they are after, it's anyone who disagrees with them about anything. They think the sun rises and sets on their opinions about God, America and the world in general. I have had the opinion for a long time that every last one of them who tries to legislate their religion in this country should be tried for treason.

Authoritarian theocracy - yes, most definitely that's what they'd very much like. Unfortunately, they've got a bunch of less zealous going along, so we've got America swinging backwards these days. It's very discouraging to see across the spectrum of domestic policy.

I can't see the real wack jobs gaining control; too psycho. But, if they did, it's a tough call whether be first in line alone. They seem to hate a great many who are not just like them.

PS - I need to qualify the wack job statement. I believe GW is a born again nut, just not as insane as some of the zealots.

Watch that first answer because it WAS the "Nationalist Sociaist Party" (or "Nazi's" who did it in Germany), so socialism is just a means of exercising control over people. Libertarians and anarchists are the only two true political forces against the spread of social fascism.
Your question is rhetorical. Any group given the opportunity to seize power will adapt society to fit its' agenda. Why ask? Why not ask if it is likely to happen, and IF so, what can be done to prevent it?

The majority of Christians I know do want to lock homosexuals up and/or execute them. My own father being among them, which is ironic, since two of his three children are bisexual, and the third is apparently straight, but acts like a stereo-typical gay man. Mind you, none are outed to said father. Wouldn't want to be disowned, and all...

But I tell you this:

America may be owned by Christianity (hypocritical of the 'freedom of religioin' ammendment, yes.), but I will love who I want to love, and will carry no shame over it.

I think they'd probably settle for anyone who doesn't agree with them or doesn't do what they like being "someplace else" where they don't have to see them -- I don't think prison or execution is an absolute for them, but they're certainly options they'd consider. As long as everyone thinks the way they do, and does what they want, they'd consider that "heaven on earth."

For me...vive la difference :)

Great question!! a question requiring intense thought to answer.
Kudos!!

I am perplexed in your question. Im going to guess (which I really dont like doing about anything). That this is very well thought out and carefully constructed.

I don't believe that you are an average Joe with meager mental abilities, whom just stumbled on the choice of wording used.
The reason is, I don't think a moron knows what an authoritarian theocracy is. Just that in itself, tells me somewhat about your contemplations in its design. Your obviously very bright. You deserved my attention and got it.

Ok, Stick with me on this.
I had to really dig into the gray matter on this one. Depending on how I thought about it. It took me almost 15 minutes to extract a basis to formulate a conclusive answer.
This path for a resultant answer was leading me into more questions. I concluded yes, Absolutly!

So here's my modus oporendis, followed with my result:
Religious zealots in our world are many. A convoluted mindset must exist. This dissfunctiong awarness of self, and perspective is screwed up. I infered the meaning of Religious zealots as maniacle religious fanatics, hell bent to achieve power by religious means.

I suppose an agenda based upon a believed truth.(religion) exists.Truth based upon faith. To me, faith is believing in something that's true without evidence or tangibility to substantiate or prove that truth. It's supposition, conjecture.

I presume that many people have religious faith. I'll also assume to many degrees. This variable, is sensiblity about that faith.
It is the open mindedness about possibilities of another truth, what if?syndrome. Which one is indeed the "Real Reality". My reality, your reality or the real reality?

However, I only see two possibilities with a religious zealot.
The first is; He want's the power of manipulation of masses because of self ideology. A "prima donna" if you will, who only understands the extreme power and wealth religious organizations can achieve. He lusts for that controll. That obsenity to dictate by forced behaviour. And the believers consent of enforcement by any means to maintain that power.

Religon is a perversity. Create termoil and discontent/hardship. (such as the concept of money.) Have it your great, you dont, you want it believing in an illusion of what it can bring. So christian religion preaches by giving it, God will get it to you. How dumb do you have to be to buy into that crock?

If anything, My reality tells my the God hates everything there is about money! It creats greed, want, vanity, pride, theft, lies. Should I go on?a hopeless sence of worth is supported by religions and shysters who preach the goodness of pennies given to the chuch will cause God to create a miracle.

I must say that, not all religions are about controlling the masses. However, I think we all have some sense of what religious sect's do. No matter what method, the best one is the number one best seller ever.

Our society here in the U.S. is predomantly Jewdaio-christian. This concept of reality is pervasive and establishes a faith in a belief of a system based on the premise that "God" (whatever that is), is an omnipotant being. To fear him and support the church?, "or else!" Not of the teaching to love others, but love in a system that loves others. This guarantees its survivability. It's brilliant. A paragdigem of the illusion of tangibility without being tangible.
Yes, America is ripe for a zealot to use religion to gain power and influence. It's too difficult today to start a new religion and achieve growth so exponentially explosive as to turn believers from current excepted theology to his doctrine is ludicrous. the best method is to use the one established, christianity!
Get those suckers to believe in a new little twist you've concocted, get someone to pay in politics to support you and your on your way.

P.T. Barnum said it. " There's a sucker born every minute" and W.C.Fields quote is " Never give a sucker an even break".

If someone is stupid enough to buy a magical sack of ****. Because someone said so And buy it again, they deserve what they get. ****!

The inevetable result is the demise of our constitution and democracy just from the shear number of votes. Not just the U.S. but any nation. It all starts with one believer, how big it gets.
If I was a christian zealot, I would support the effort to promote having christain (not religious)doctrine in schools. I cant see christians pushing for a tora in school.
An effort to modify our constitution by allowing the joining of church and state certainly qualifies a yes. Zip

Yes to the first part, and a partial yes to the second part. (Most people would probably just like to send us to an island instead. Easier on the conscience.)

You mean they aren't already well on their way to accomplishing such a horrific goal?

Just look at the political climate.

The first really huge "red flag" that popped for me where G W's "faith based initiatives!" That did it for me!

There are so few people who want to do this. You are overexaggerating. Most Americans 75% or more want marriage to be between 1 man and 1 woman. There is value is preserving the family structure this way. Look what has happened in the black community. 70% of kids are born out of wedlock. Look at the crime in the inner cities. This is a direct result of lack of family structure. Kids need 1 dad and 1 mom.

I do not care if someone is gay. It is what it is. I do not care if it is nature or environment. While I do accept gays as what they are, most people do not. That is life.
