World War III by definition is a war between MAJOR powers.
War between USSR, China, USA, Great Britain, and/or France is not going to happen in our lifetime.
All these countries own too many assets within the borders of their so-called rivals. International conflict between them today consists of trying to buy into marginal third world economies.
This is done by playing political patty-cake with their corrupt governments.
Bottom line, no nuclear exchanges, and the nuclear haves are going to keep the nuclear have-nots in line.
All the Islamic countries together could not win a real war with the USA.
Not in 5-8 years, not ever.
If the terrorists ever started getting real power, the rest of the world would waste no time with concentration camps and nukes to Mecca.

I don't believe the third world war will happen in the near future.There was times back in the early/mid 1980,s where we were close during the cold war it was bloody scary, this passed. Then panic in the 1990,s as more and more countries developed nuclear capabilities,this passed. The biggest fear now is from terrorists as we all know from 9/11 hopefully this to will pass, but god help us if these terrorists get access to even crude nuclear weapon's that could detonate from a truck or a large van.

WW3 was the Cold War; WW4 is what Iran started back in the late 70s / early 80s, and finally we chose to engage a couple of years ago.
Iran has been at war with us -- more or less -- since the hostage crisis. For some reason [me thinks altruism & pragmatism], we've only recently noticed or chosen to respond in kind. Unfortunately, we are really going after the satellites, not the mother ship: Iran.

If america stops trying to control and suppress every country it doesnt agree with, it will stop breeding terrorists. But the longer this gobal unease goes on, the harder it will be to stop the uprising of extremists.
I live in hope that insular ignorant americans will become the 'advanced' nation that George Bush claims it is - and the majority of the population will become globally aware

More likely between the next 2 to 7 years. BY 2013 we ill be in WW III or another US Sectarian Civil War. See link for data on this matter.

It depends just how united Russia, China, Venezuela, Iran, Syria, and N Korea really are. And if an axis like that did form, you could probably bet liberal Europe would join in so they dont get wiped off the map! Besides the UK, the only country in Europe with some GUTS LEFT!
