im not too too sure but i think itd be 1 its not too much the gene, its more that the species that has it survives. soon everyone just has it out of having survived.

I don't know that the genes themeselves would change, but the mutations contained on them would appear more frequently as only the members of the species carrying the trait would be sucessful at surviving and able to pass the trait on to offspring. If the trait is dominant, it would occur at a faster rate than it would if it were a recessive trait, at least until the majority of the population carried only the two recessive genes.

Your answer is correct. The surviving creature will pass the trait along to its progeny -- while the creatures without the trait may not survive long enough to reproduce.
