You need to have an Yahoo Account to sign in to Yahoo Messenger
Create a yahoo account.
Download Yahoo messenger and run it to install.
Then sign in using the user name and password.

When you go to yahoo.com on the web, you will see a section, usually on the right of your screen where you can download Yahoo! Messenger. You will be prompted to enter your Yahoo! ID. You will received prompts on how to install and they are pretty easy to follow.

go to http://messenger.yahoo.com/ and download the thing and you are already signed up with your Yahoo Account.
