I've tried fliers and even putting an ad in the newspaper, but I can't get anyone to hire me for babysitting. What else can I try? Any other jobs? How can I get people to notice that I need a job? Also, are there any paying online surveys that will let a 12 year old join? I'm open to any ideas on how I can make money. It's a little urgent..... Also, I can't earn money from my parents, because they hardly have any money right now.

I am so sorry that, at 12 years old, you are trying to find a job like an adult, instead of enjoying just being a kid.

I don't know if they still have paper routes for kids, that's what I did when I was 14 years old.

If you have a nice neighborhood close to you, go door to door with a garbage pail and a shovel, and offer to poop scoop their yard - small yard, maybe $5 / $10. In my neighborhood they charge $20 weekly for the service.

Don't do any of that online stuff, you're way too young and may get hurt.

If you want to babysit, maybe you can volunteer at a local daycare, and then when the moms get to know you, they may hire you for babysitting. Honestly, I won't hire anyone under 14, because in case of emergency, I think that a high schooler is better prepared.

Good luck,

First off a twelve year old isn't allowed to get a normal job which is why a lot of people haven't called you for one. It's illegal because it's called a Child Labor Law which protects children under the age of 16 from getting abused in a workplace, so kids 16 and under cannot get a job.

As for the babysitting issue try going to your local hospital or asking around to see if anybody has a babysitting course you can take. Many people will be a lot more impressed if you can show them you have a certificate stating that you successfully completed a babysitting course.

Babysitting is not the only way to make money and to be honest it's alot of responsibility. You are not totally out of luck though because there are other ways that you can make money... and don't go the survey route. If you want to invest your time and energy in something, make it something that's going to pay off. Might I suggest going to your local library and getting books like "Fast Cash for Kids" by Bonnie & Noel Drew. Once you find that book look at the books around it by subject. Your librarian can help you. You will find lots of good ideas and some pretty good books!!!

You could be a "mother's helper" - babysitting and meal prep while the mother is in the house doing other things. Also, you could wash cars, you could organize attics and cellars, you could mow lawns, shovel snow (when it arrives!), if you live near a farm you could help with the harvest (that's a legal job for a 12 year old!). Are you in home ec class? Have you learned to replace a zipper yet? Hem pants? Mend a tear??? Sew on a button? I supplemented my income when I was broke by fixing people's clothes. How about polishing silver?? Buy a can of NEV-R-DULL (about 4 bucks) and ask your neighbors if they'd be willing to pay you a few bucks for polishing all their silverware. I hope this helps you.

Talk to your parents and other adults you know about getting referrals for the job you are offering to do. Some people may feel a little scared about letting a 12 year old stay with their children. Maybe you can instead do things like pet sitting, watering plants, checking the mail, and more for people on vacation in your neighborhood. I used to do a lot of household chores for my parents, family members, and friends when I was your age.

At 12, getting a job is hard because adults might not think you would be mature enough to babysit. But what about pet sitting or pet walking or pulling weeds for people? I wish I had someone to come over to work on my lawn! Ask the Universe for guidance--you'll get it. Good luck!

You can do odd jobs, providing you're willing to do them properly for people. Rake leaves, wash cars, sweep driveways/sidewalks, weed, (later on if you're in a cold climate you can shovel driveways or sidewalks), clean, whatever you can think of that people may want done. 12 may not be too young for a paper route. Some local free papers may even pay for house to house delivery.

I know some girls who help clean house, some wash windows, some do odd chores for their neighbors, and still others work at jobs of their own creation...entrepreneurs of sorts. Perhaps you can create something others may want to buy? You'll never know until you try... nothing ventured, nothing gained... eg. I know one girl and her brother who collected branches and made everything from bird houses to pot holders... they even made little stepping stools for the garden. Use your imagination... make a better mouse trap.
