He wrote plays and poems. There is debate about several of his plays, and probably he only wrote parts of them but most believe that he wrote almost all of his plays.

But we should say that in his time, they mostly produced plays based on earlier plays so even in his most famous plays like King Lear, Hamlet, Macbeth, etc., Shakespeare put much material for old stories into his own words. And the actors had a part in creating at least the lines and probably some of the plot.

Some say that someone else, usually a nobleman, really wrote the plays but that is silly and has little basis except prejudice.

William Sheakespeare, sometimes called "The Bard", is only the most important playwright in the story of English Literature. Some critics go as far as affirming that he shaped the English language, without Sheakespeare we wouldn't talk the way we do now.

He wrote around 35 plays, from tragedies such as Macbeth, Hamlet and Romeo & Juliet to comedies such as The Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing and A Midsummer's Night Dream. Other famous plays by him are The Merchant of Venice, The Taming of the Shrew (both comedies), King Lear, Othello, and Titus Andronicus (tragedies). Most, if not all of his plays are written in verse and have a certain rythm.

He also was an accomplished poet and wrote a series of sonnets, most of them romantic.

The most signifigant thing he has been credited for are the plays published in his name. He was, in fact, a businessman, much like an Executive Producer of a Hollywood movie. Christopher Wren, who murdered somebody and had to flee to Italy or be hung, ghost wrote most of the plays that are now under Shakespeare's name.

Just Google him or search with Yahoo and you will find out that he was one of the most famous (and talented I might add) of English poets and playwrights.
Ever heard of Romeo and Juliet? Macbeth? King Lear? Othello? Midsummer Nights Dream? Sonnet 116?
His poem and play list goes on forever.

shakespear probably never actually existed. there are no records of him attending the school that he supposedly went to, or living in his home town. it could be that someone else wrote his literature, using william shakespear (a common name) as a pen name as writing was not a job for a nobleman
