Sorry.. I disagree. I leave my PC on 24 hours a day. I occasionally reboot it just to reset memory, etc... Most of my scheduled services are scheduled in the middle of the night - for convenience. Downloads from Microsoft, Norton, etc... As long as you have firewall, virus protection - it's not any different that having it on all day.

If you just get on to check your email then turn it off.
Businesses leave their computers on because they are frequently used. Booting the computer 50-100 times a day is harder on the power supply and other components than leaving the computer on during the work day.
Power supplies are like anything else. They only last so long.
Power supplies come with a rating (MTBF) that gives an estimate of how many hours it should perform before you start experiencing problems.
MTBF is the rating given by a manufacturer for the typical amount of usage a unit will have before a possible failure. Roughly 50% of units fail before this and 50% live longer. The higher the MTBF rating, the better the quality of the power supply. Avoid units with ratings of below 20,000 hours as this only equates out to roughly 2.25 years of continuous usage.
Wattage ratings on power supplies can be deceptive as this is the total combined wattage of all the voltage lines. With the increased demands by components, the total required output particularly for the +12V line has become increasingly important. Ideally a power supply should have at least 18A on the +12V line. The actual load you need will vary depending upon your components.
As with any other product, power supply companies make different grades of power units. The more money you spend on a power supply the better the rating.

No don't do this if you are leaving your computer you should ALWAYS shut it down at home in case of a power outage or a hack attempt. If you are at the computer and you see the lights in your place flicker or your computer starts acting strange like it is being hacked immediately try to shut it down normally and if that doesn't work within seconds hit the power button to turn it off. Also, another reason you shouldn't leave your computer on at home is because it takes energy to run and also if someone should break-in they could do more damage if your computer is logged in than if they didn't have the password.

turning the computer on and off every day puts unnecessary wear and tear on the hard drive. newer operating systems like windows xp, windows vista, and Mac OSX are designed to be left on for long periods of time. do NOT leave a windows 98 or older computer on for a large number of days, as it will likely crash.
as long as you have a good firewall, like Zone Lab's ZoneAlarm (free for private use) you shouldn't have to worry about a thing.
this computer has been on for 12 days straight, not a problem in the world.
alos, forgot to mention.. if the computer DOES happen to crash (rare), you will lose most settings from last time you booted. for example, your wallpaper will return to the last used wallpaper.

My family does, and i heard that it's actually not too good for the computer to shut it down, start it up, shut it down, ect.
it doesn't hurt to leave it on, but if your really concerned about a power bill or something, you can call your company and ask how much electricity it actually uses.
Hope it helps!!

Leaving computer On is ok. there is no harm in it.
But if you want to save elctricity bills, then shut it off.
It is advisable you should turn off the computer at night before going to the bed.

I wouldn't, leaves your computer open to spyware, adaware, and hackers. Definitely turn your home computer off when you go to bed or going to be gone for long periods of time.

I depends how much you use it. if you use it alot, It is wise to leave it on so you dont have to open it again. But if you dont use it alot, it makes no sence opening it all the time.
