Ibuprofen was the only thing that helped me- it is a smooth muscle relaxer. Avoid salt and caffeine for the week before your period, and eat foods high in fiber and low in fat. salt and caffeine contribute to PMS symptoms and bloating, while fiber prevents some cramping by keeping the hormones from aming you mildly constipated. Mild exercise and/or yoga is good for pain relief. If the pain is really bad both before and after you start flowing there may be something wrong (like endometriosis or prostaglandin imbalance). See a doctor, and consider birth control. It keeps the uterine lining from building up as much, reducing both flow and cramping (it was part of my trearment for endometriosis, I used to have pain so bad I would pass out or throw up).

As most have been telling you, avoid, or really cut back on the caffeine and sodium. Don't wait until you have your period though to start cutting back, start the week before you actually get it. On top of the Midol or Pamprin, try laying on a heating pad or just having it on your stomach. A nice cup of decaf tea often helps too.

Avoid any food or drinks with a lot of caffeine (colas, coffee, chocolate, etc). Eat foods that are rich in Vitamin A (red meats, dark green leafy vegetables)--Loss of blood can make you anemic. Drink lots of water to help control menstral bloating.

Calcium supplements can help, or get it the natural way from dark green leaft veggies & milk. Stay away from processed sugars and caffeine. They can cause the cramping to be worse & major changes in your blood sugar will make you more moody.
Heat packs to the stomach can help. As could low impact movement, like walking. Also stay away from aspirin, you're better off with tylenol.

Every thing swells at that time make sure your intestines are empty. There is only a thin wall between intestines and uterus Eat fresh fruit and oatmeal to keep things running smoothly. There isn't a food that irritates the uterus that I know of

I had that really bad too,i know how you feel trust me, but you can eat apples, oranges, and bananas to lower the pain. You can also eat celery, broccoli, and spinach to help also. Don't eat anything high calorie or high carb, like pop, candy bars, potato chips, etc. (snack food mostly) For your meats, eat lots of chicken, pork, and steak. Good Luck! :). You can also eat Activia which stops the bloating and cramps, and milk works too.

Advil works for me. Try not to eat too much the first day of your period or the day before (if you can feel it coming on).
That's all I can say. I don't think foods have much impact as much as the amount of foods.
