I want to sell musical instruments online. I have the products. I was curious about what the cost and risks involved might be. I have been searching the internet, but I was wondering if anyone out there is actually running an online store and making a profit and what advice you could give. I appreciate all of your responses and help. Thank You

For someone new with little experience?

I'd recommend looking at Yahoo's Merchant Services, you can host an online store on Yahoo inexpensively, and they have many great features.

For $40/month, it's a good way to get started.

If you have good knowledge and want to have your own server, OsCommerce is a good program, and 100% free and open source. http://www.oscommerce.org

That gives you a couple of ideas to explore.

Buy some plain white blank card with envelopes (50 per package for $10.00 at Michaels) Then just embelish the card with some 59cent material ribbon in your colours and print the wording either directly on the card, or on vellum and use spray adhesive to stick it on (vellum costs a but more). Or buy some card stock/bristol board in your wedding colours and cut out the shape of your flower with the wording on the flower. It will look really pretty and creative without spending a fortune. You can also buy a stamp with your initials, or in a shape that would suit your wedding, and stamp each card to make it fancier. Good luck!

Accept credit card payments in advance using etrust.com and make your own website. Get a digital camera and take pictures of your merchandise and describe it. Look at other shopping sites like http://www.overstock.com/ and the like for hints. You should market with http://www.yahoo.com/ when you are big enough, they will give you a domain inexpensively.
