one Radeon x850/Radeon x800 Crossfire Edition graphics card, and one standard pci express radeon x850 or radeon x800 graphics card. My question is can I use one are the other and if so which one ?

If you wish to use the crossfire dual video mode you will need one crossfire version and a standard version at identical speeds ...

If you just want to use a singe card use that standard version of the graphics card of your choice x800 or x850 with the 850 being the marginally faster card.

You can take advantage of ATI CrossFire™ by pairing the Radeon X1900GT with a Radeon X1900 CrossFire Edition card. X1950 is the latest model that came out. CrossFire involves a motherboard, a special video card, a regular Radeon, an external dongle cable connecting the two cards, and a graphics driver to animate all of this hardware.
