I don't know alot about hippie culture, I know I admire what I do know, how freely they live and whatever. But were there black hippies during the hippie movement in the 60s? I know hippies supported civil rights and everything but were there actually any black people who participated in the hippie movement? I hope I don't sound ignorant or anything because I'm a black woman and I really find this interesting.

Also, I know hippies today are called "neo-hippies" and I was wondering if any of y'all know any black neo-hippies or are a black neo-hippie yourself? Again, I hope I don't sound ignorant or anything. Thanks!

I'm sure that there were some black hippies. However, having grown up during that period -- 60's & 70's, my experience was that hippies were more into sex, drugs, rock & roll and protesting against the Viet Nam war. Whereas, blacks were more militant -- fighting for civil rights, including voting rights, etc.
