There will be a presidential election that year, and it will also be a leap year. As to the rest of your question, please just say no to drugs.

Nothing much will happen like that probably just another Y2K thing. Remember people being very scare of it coming and it never did. Hopefully humanity will make it to New year's day 2013 without too much tragedies to regret. The whole Mayan calander ending thing was that 2012 was so far into the future they probably thought a new calender could wait awhile before they had a chance they were wiped out.

In high-school biology class, my professor told us this is the estimated date for a massive population crash. This is from the study of carrying capacities. Human beings reproduce expotentially, and there are only a limited number of resources. The study of carrying capacities says there will be a plateu period and then, due to depleted resources, a massive population crash. Mother nature always finds a way to restore the balance. Be it famine or pestilence. Since we're humans, you can add on war. Great population control methods. In the science of carrying capacity- about 10% of the plateu population will survive, only to repeat the whole scenario.

It will be on the eqinox of 2012 and either the end of man or the begining of a new era. According to the mayans? Why did they stop keeping the most suffisticated calendar known to mankind?

Some will die obviously its just natures way. Survive from what? The war thats going on now? I hope were not in the same war in 2012 because that would be lame. Rebirthing... only if you believe in Reincarnation. As for me Im going to be doing the same thing that i am right now... sitting on this damn pc answering questions like this just to cure my boredom. or until i die if i die before 2012. But i hope I dont because i really look forward to be sitting here on my pc answering question such as this one in 6 years. As for WW3..... we are already in WW3 most of us are just ignorent of that. Oh yea and hopefully MJ is legal. but most likely not. Congratulations on surviving the past 6 years.

I was told the Mayan calender only goes up to 2012. It is supposed to be more accurate then our modern day 12 month calendar. Many claim this foreshadows the end of the world. I think That 2012 was supposed to be the year the for the Mayans to make a new calendar.

For those of you who are not familiar with the significance of 2012, here’s a short explanation: The basis of this event lies in the Mayan calendar, in which time, as we understand it, comes to an end. A major shift occurs in human consciousness. Will this be the end of the world? Or, is it the beginning of a new world? Some believe that the shift will reveal the 4th dimension (time) or maybe the 5th dimension (unity with the unseen Spirit World/Heaven).

Recent reports of the sun changing its magnetic poles and huge bursts of energy hitting the Earth are to be repeated in--2012. Plus there are the ongoing measurements of Earth’s magnetic fields, which appear to be speeding up. In addition, this date also corresponds to the Hopi prophesy of their “5th World” coming. Tibetans are also pointing to 2012 as being a significant time.

Basicly it is the end of the Mayan calender and prophices. Many other Physics and foreseers can't seem to see beyond this date either.
Others say that we may get hit by a giant metor during that year.
or the second coming will happen.

Since you are not God you couldn't possibly know what is going to happen tomorrow, let alone in 2012. I try to live my life as if today were my last day on earth.
