If a baby is not tolerating powdered infant formulas, including the ones for colic like Nutramigen, I have heard that some children do well with old fashioned evaporated milk formulas. What are the specific ingredients and has anyone had experience with them?

Oh please don't go that route!!

Have the baby checked out for acid reflux.. many babies are just said to be colicky when they actually have stomach acids bouncing up and down their throats which makes it raw and then hurts like you know what.. they have cheap meds that can be given to help that aspect.. it's worth looking into...

Evaporated milk has no nutritional value! Babies need formula or breastmilk for their nutrition... Besides.. think about it..... its cows milk... it's still milk.. with nothing in it (blah!) you'd have a VERY unhappy baby who's malnourished....

Try the ped before you try home remedies... and I know colic stinks.. but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't last that long..(My first was a horrible colicky baby.. oy oy oy)

You could try goat's milk. Talk to your doctor first. Have you tried a different bottle. I found that the Dr. Brown bottles are great. The Platex Nurser bottle is also great. My son had a lot of problems with the fomula also. Something else you could try is the Nestle Good Start Formula. If you do go with the Soy formula, go with on organic on. Natures Only makes an organic formula. The regular soy formula is something that you want to use as a last resort even if your doctor gives the ok. I'm not sure about the organic soy, but I would feel better feeding that to my son then the regular kind.

I was one of those babies born in the 50s, was fed homemade formula, and I grew up just fine and am 60 years old today. My mother always made our formula with the canned milk and corn syrup and other things in it I think, and we all grew up just fine and healthy. I swear the formulas today are pushed because big corporations are making money. Money talks and people just follow and listen - and some rich CEO somewhere is having drinks on an island enjoying himself. I bet the homemade formula that we all grew up on back then is okay. We were all healthy and all my 7 siblings (who are older than I am) are still alive today.

It is possible that your child may be latose intolerent. If so going to evaporated milk will not help, try one of the soy formulas it is milk free (all three of my grand children are latose intolerent). But to answer your question yes, one can carnation evaporated milk,
1 teaspoon karo syrup (clear one) and one carnation can of water, as they get older (I'm not sure of the exact age) you decrease the amount of water.
Hope this helps.

It is recommended that you stick with the modern formulas due to the vitamins and minerals that are in them. Have you tried everything (pre-made, concentrated, soy???).
