Yes, you can use the No Cry Sleep Solution. It's all about routines and consistancy. It's a book by Elizabeth Pantley and I highly recommend it. It worked well for my oldest daughter.

Attached parenting... much of which is endorsed by Dr. William Sears would be the polar opposite of Ferber. Sears has a good book on the family bed. Maybe not what you had in mind, but works great for our family. There are lots of websites.

Secrets of the Baby Whisperer helped us with our first. It's a much gentler solution than Ferber's.

I also loved the No Cry Sleep Solution. But the difference maker book at our house was Good Night, Sleep Tight. There was a little crying, but not much (and he was older, around 10 months or so, so it was much more tolerable). Both books offer good ways to get baby to sleep where you want them to with minimal crying.
