Humm. That is a very interesting question. Too much freedom will lead to rebellion...to little will have the same effect...so yes. There is a such thing as too much freedom.

Yes, and no. Honestly, I would never trust us to our own devices without any form of law and order to keep us in check. I mean, so many of our youth, I'm afraid to say it, are an example.

Yet at the same time, if there are too many laws put in place, the ultimate consequence is a totalitarian, almost automatonic society. Nobody wants either, now do they.

So there is a such thing as too much freedom, and too little freedom.

Re: Free Jazz...No such thing...each person you refer to in the world of "free Jazz" has spent many years studying hid craft...Your dis appreciation of this art form speaks more of your lack of understanding of so called free jazz..Y ou ask the practitioner of it and he would scoff at you using that term.. He knows the structure there of and you don't,,Max Roach the great Jazz drummer defined jazz as the most Democratic of art forms because every musician involved is given the right to comment on the form of the piece being played,,so you see right there is a curtailment of freedom. You can't musically say just anything like a self indulgent child. You have to make a intelligent comment, or you won't get the gig.

Only if there is no responsibility to match the freedom. If you could guaruntee perfect responsibility, then you could have perfect freedom. Unfortunately, we humans are flawed and imperfect. So yes, there is such a thing as "too much freedom", because there will never be enough responsibility to temper it.

We were never intended to be a democracy, which means everyone votes on everything. We are a republic.

When you say "too much freedom" our founders felt there was a danger of people being so selfish about their own personal freedoms that they would stop looking at what is best for the good of society.

An example is extreme sexual activity by young people who then think everyone else is supposed to tax themselves to take care of the unwed mothers and babies. They will tell you it's no one's business what they do nor with whom they do it.

To me, that is 'too much freedom.'

Read some of the opinions of Thomas Hobbs. I would consider Plato's Republic, Moore's Utopia, and maybe even look at Herbert Spencer. They are a good place to begin an exploration of this question.

Our freedom was fought for and won by vets! We have plenty of freedoms, the real problem is those that consider themselves as free thinkers that abuse those freedoms
