Love the island been there 7 times. Very Friendly staffing at the hotels. However just like anywhere in the world there are bad parts to stay away from. Heck I wouldn't travel in my city at night alone??!!!

Use common sence when travel..people disappear from their home towns...you don't need to travel somewhere for that to happen.

Book a trip and enjoy it.!!! Jamaica is the best

The beautiful island of Jamaica is nestle in the caribbean sea it is an island nation of the Greater Antilles, 240 kilometres (150 mi) in length and as much as 85 kilometres (50 mi) in width situated in the Caribbean Sea. It is 635 kilometres (391 mi) east of the Central American mainland, 150 kilometres (93 mi) south of Cuba, and 180 kilometres (112 mi) west of the island of Hispaniola, on which Haiti and the Dominican Republic are situated. Its indigenous Arawakan-speaking Taíno inhabitants named the island Xaymaca, meaning either the "Land of Springs," or the "Land of Wood and Water." Formerly a Spanish possession known as Santiago, then the British West Indies Crown colony of Jamaica. It is the third most populous Anglophone country in the Americas, after the United States and Canada.

Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean, and the fourth largest country. The island of Jamaica is home to the Blue Mountains (Jamaica) inland and is surrounded by a narrow coastal plain. For this reason, most major towns and both cities are located on the coast. Chief towns include the capital city Kingston, Spanish Town, Mandeville, Ocho Rios, Port Antonio and the city of Montego Bay.

The climate in Jamaica is tropical, with hot and humid weather, although inland regions have a more temperate climate. Some regions on the south coast, such as the Liguanea Plain and the Pedro Plains are relatively dry rain-shadow areas like rainforests.

Tourism
The major economic activity in the parish is Tourism. Ochio Rios is one of the major tourist destination of Jamaica, given that Dunn's River Falls and many popular beaches, like Puerto Seco Beach, are located there. There is a cruise ship dock on the west shore of Ocho Rios Bay, and numerous hotels and resorts (including Sandals Jamaica) are located in and around the city.

Sandals Dunn's River Villaggio
Inspired by the great Italian Renaissance period...and named after the world-famous waterfall located minutes away...this breathtaking resort combines Mediterranean elegance with Jamaican charm, creating Caribbean luxury on a grand scale. From a stunning lobby with soaring columns and winding staircase reminiscent of an Italian palazzo...to the rippling waters of Jamaica's largest freshwater pool, highlighted by a cascading waterfall that mirrors the image of its famous namesake.

Sandals Whitehouse
Whitehouse is as alluring as it is rich in the history, distinctive culture and creative fare that makes Jamaica's south coast the next hit vacation spot. Home to the newest 360 room Sandals Whitehouse resort, Whitehouse is a flashback to Jamaica's colonial past, as it is the setting for what's hot in Caribbean vacation getaways.

I love it. I'm not sure what the first answerer is talking about. The Jamaican people are some of the best people on earth. My wife and I vacationed for a week in Negril and can't wait to go back.

Its a fun island but a little scary. The beaches are fabulous and the water is warm and beautiful. The nightlife is exciting too.

It would be perfect if it were not so full of the gun runners and drug dealers.
Crime is a major concern and tourists are advised not to venture too far from their resorts.

I felt sad to see how there are so many rich hotels on one side and so many Jamaicans living in very poorly made houses.
