You can quit a bad habit by replacing that habit with something else. For instance, instead of biting nails, pop a mint when you catch yourself. It's a matter of conscious effort & determination to replace a bad habit. My finace quit smoking by starting to run.

I expect that it's probably like anything - some teenagers will have tried some or all of those things, others won't have. The age at which those who have will have tried them will vary, dependant on the kinds of friends they have, the kinds of parents they have, and how they spend their time. I'm in my early twenties and have only tried drinking out of your list. I have several relatives who have died from lung cancer as a result of smoking, and having seen them all suffer it just really doesn't seem worth it. Drugs I just don't want to touch, much the same as you - if I won't smoke for fear of what it would do to my body, why would I do anything more extreme?! I have tried alcohol in the past, but to be honest I don't really like the taste, and I don't like the lack of control that comes with drinking too much, and so I rarely if ever drink now. As you say, some of those things may change in time, but they might not. You seem pretty set in your ideas now, so I'd recommend that if you decide you want to avoid those things, then stick with your goals and don't give in, no matter what other people say. Hope this helps. x

We all have habits---some good; some bad. What qualifies as a habit? It is a routine practice that is done in the same way for the same reason, over and over again. A habit becomes second nature and is intrinsically neither good nor bad. When a habit is negative, it hinders or harms and when a habit is positive, it fosters health, self-esteem, and interpersonal relationships.
Once you’ve reached the Preparation Stage, you can plan to change in the following way:
1. Make a list of what you’ll gain or how you’ll benefit from accomplishing your goal.
2. Break it into small doable steps and brainstorm multiple ways to achieve those steps.
3. Choose 3-4 action steps that are objective and measurable.
4. Set a timeline with a set date to re-evaluate your progress.
5. Decide on some immediate rewards you’ll use for positive steps you accomplish.
6. And finally, don’t forget to enlist the support and encouragement of others and remember to remind yourself of previous successes.

You've got to really want to quit. Where there's a will, there's a way. Don't look for any outside easy answers. It has to come from within. Asking for guidance from your higher self to lead you toward your better good helps.

it says it takes three weeks to break a habit but an addiction is a whole lot harder...i guess you just have to keep telling yourself you can get passed it...and just be really determined to quit...or get someone you can talk to and that can help you...ya kno? or instead of doing the thing you're addicting to occupy yourself with something else...that won't hurt you...it's really hard to quit an addiction but if you believe you can do it you can!
hope I helped

Well, if you're talking specifcially about biting your nails... what I did was I would paint my nails, so that way I was less inclined to bite my nails. Needless to say, I don't bite them anymore :o)

1) Make yourself aware that you are doing it.
2) Ask others around you to let you know when you are doing it.
3) Let them support you in not doing it (eg. don't blow up at them when they point it out).

You just stop doing it, every time you catch yourself doing it you remind your self l quit and stop right then. But first you got to want to quit no matter what it is.
