compaq presio 2500 out of warranty pessing other keys doesn't seem to help

It might be a problem with the ram.

You might have a sticky key on the keyboard that is causing the problem. Check each key. If that does not solve the problem then take it to a qualified repair facility.

its either going to be the video chip or the memory I would try swopping memory first since video chip resides on the mother board and it would be very expensive. The best thing would be to get a new laptop if yours isnt under warranty

sometimes it happens to my compaq too...all i do is press the power switch for a few seconds till the laptop turns off and then switch it on again after a few seconds....it always works for me!!
