My turtle is about 2 years old and he is otherwise healthy. My roomate gave him to me 2 years ago so I am not sure if he was captive or not. He is exibiting normal behavior however he is always franticily swiming at the glass like he is trying to get out. What's his problem?

He's trying to get out.

This is a common behavior for young turtles as they feel the urge to find a bigger, better habitat.

You can help by:
1- Bigger tank. Aim for AT LEAST 10 gallons of swimming space per inch of turtle.
2- No glass, or cover the glass from the outside. A lot of us use big plastic tubs partially for this reason. (Also because they are cheaper than a big glass aquaria, etc.)

He's trying to get out! It might help to move that roast beef sandwich from the side of the glass.

I think its normal if you are in the room when he does this. My turtle does it when he wants attention, or food. But I am not totally sure.

I too believe it is looking for a way to get to a larger space...

Please don't forget to use UVB light. So many people with turtles don't understand how important it is for their bones and shell. Thanks!
