You are a very awesome sixth grader. Good job in explaining your question.
I don't know if it is happening.
I have a hybrid car, so I save money on gas. Hope it will help the environment.
There is a movie called Inconvenient Truth which explains the science behind it. Al Gore's science teacher discovered the trend by studying the past thousands/millions of years. You are right in your explanation that temps fluctuate widely, so you can't judge by looking at a few years alone.
Also, the glaciers are melting, so the polar bears drown because they have to swim for miles before finding some ice to stand on.

I cast my vote with those who say that there has been global warming in recent decades, but it is unclear how much of it is related to greenhouse gases.
Those who claim that greenhouse gases are the main cause are trying to make the public believe that by simply repeating it over and over. It has gotten to the point where they claim that the time for debate is over because the idea is so widely accepted. But it's widely accepted only because of people who keep saying it, not because there is definitive scientific proof that greenhouse gases are a significant contributor. By insisting that the debate is over (and by presenting only one side of the story, relying on only the "convenient" facts that support their position) these promoters of global warming theory, including Al Gore, are preventing the actual debate of ideas and facts from ever occurring. It would be sad if mankind never learned how much is due to manmade causes and how much is natural.

No, When I was in school, they told us the earth is entering an Ice Age. My friend from Colorado said they got 31 inches of snow last week in the mountains. That is in Summer!!!!!!
Global warming is supposedly caused by too much CO2.
But plants love CO2, Last decade it was save the rainforest, now, when we produce CO2 for the rainforest, everyone says there is too much. They are just using that as an excuse to say the U.S is polluting the planet and should pay. Why doesn't anyone tell China and India to stop producing CO2? Now that all our manufacturing in done out of the US, we don't produce that much.

I am just about fifty and yes I believe global warming is happening. I am not totally convinced about all the causes that are proposed and I think the solar activity cycle has a lot to do with it. at about the same time that I noticed the winters getting much milder I have also noticed much clearer and brighter northern lights (related to solar wind) so this might hopefully be part of a regular cycle, but I doubt that it is.
Even if the solar cycle is a partial reason I don't believe our burning of fossil fuels or creation of destructive chemicals is harmless or not having an effect. please ask your science teacher about this.
ps. the guy above (Glenn N) mentions the "little ice age" this is related to the long solar cycle and is well recorded by the royal irish observatory.

Yes its happening , but nots just that .
Ever few centries theres is a trend where it gets hotter and hotter then gets colder and colder then goes back up. Same with hurricane season. Like u saw last year? Major!. But its liek a cycle. Fifty years ago it was like this.

When everyone believes one thing, the opposite is inevitably the correct choice.
Is the Earth getting warmer? - probably
Are we humans responsible for it? - Not likely
The Earth is a dynamic planet and is constantly changing. Don't base your opinion on what you see on TV. Those people don't even have reputable sources much of the time.

We know it's happening, the question is not whether global warming is happening, but why is global warming happening.
It may be because of man or perhaps it's just nature. I suspect man is having some influence on the earth but to what extent, I am not sure.
And to the people who think that there is no way man could be responsible for global warming: Are you saying that mankind, a race that landed on the moon and developed the Hydrogen bomb, couldn't possibly be responsible for any changes in the earths environment?

THERE MAY BE GLOBAL WARMING, BUT THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THE WORLD HAS EXPERINCED CHANGES IN OUR WEATHER. REMEMBER WE HAD THE GREAT ICE AGE AND IT MELTED DUE TO WARMING. SO I DON'T THINK THE COWS AND CARS ARE CAUSING THIS ROUND OF WEATHER CHANGE. IT IS LIKE A SEASON CHANGING.

It is happening. No one doubts this. The question is how much of it, if any, is caused by human activity. The earth has been in a natural warming trend for over 300 years when we came out of "the little ice age".
