To wash your hands of someone means you are ridding your life of any traces of them. It means you are making a clean start and they are no longer involved in your life. You are washing your hands, so you will no longer handle or deal with that person in any way from this point forward. The analogy "wash that man right out of my hair" has also been used to symbolize the same process.

To cleanse yourself of any envolvement and any hurt, sorrow or hardship that went along with that person. To no longer allow someone who caused you any bad karma to have any effect on you anymore. To have a clean slate, start fresh, and be yourself!
