You dont necessarily have to pay anything to be a singer. I mean the only investment you would probably have is time and possibly spending money for proper voice lessons and a demo tape. If you are really talended, you need to network to the proper group of people. You need to make things happen for you. Network to some good people in the industry and get a demo made. Make sure you get a demo producer that is not taking you out for the money. Good Luck.

Music companies have found it is more profitable to only establish a few stars and to establish them into huge larger than life musicians. Which is why we have both Simpson sisters with major record deals and you get the shaft. But you can't blame the record companies only. The consumer makes the choice on what he/she wants and apparently that's it. Start a band or something. If you're really talented you should be able to write music, play an instrument, and sing it. Otherwise you're just a highly talented choir singer. I think the cream will generally rise to the top in anything so just work ur *** off.

If you are looking to "break into the business" you are probably going after it in the wrong direction. A reputable producer will tell you that if you are good you don't pay a cent! If you are marketable the producer will take care of everything you need with his/her own funds. Any monies they get will be from your product. Of course you pay them back, but that is eventually. If you are participating in local talent shows you have to buy an outfit; school plays you have to buy an outfit, church choir you have to buy a robe, etc. of course you will pay for these local functions. When you are dealing with REAL MONEY you don't pay up front. Try to hook up with a producer that has known clientel. You may have to leave your "hood" to do that, but if you want it you gotta jump out of your skin!

Sweetheart, if you have to pay that much, you're being scammed! All you need to take is singing classes, try hard to get your talent and songs out there, and someone will take you under their label. It shouldn't cost you a WHOLE lot...
