When we invaded Iraq what we should have done was taken their oil and used it to pay for American only companies to rebuild the country instead of the poor old US taxpayer paying for the Iraqis' freedom. We should have then privatised it and sold it to American oil companies. I know it sounds cynical but why did we not do this?

I suggest you Americans get the hell out of Iraq and solve your own problems. Who are you to decide to "INVADE" another country? They don't want you there...fix your own messed up country first, before sending your people into Iraq to kill innocent civilians.

It sucks to pay all the time, but it is the price to pay to live in the best place around. If we wanted to we could just take what we want from a little country leave then with nothing but suffering.
The oil guys could have got Iraq oil for dirt cheap 9 years ago and made billions. but it would have been illegal that did not stop other country's from buying illegal oil. The U.N. they are supposed to be the force of freedom (what a joke) heck the Sec. Generals son was stealing oil.
Other country's talk about freedom and evil US pushing others around. when its their necks on the line about to be cut they call the US to help them
the oil from Iraq Is what should pay for the rebuilding, but when people think that the US is the bad guy not the Sunnis and Shiites that are blowing every thing up and keeping them living in the 12th century. A school get built then it gets blown up, it how they have decide to live/die.
Oil prices are set on the world market like all other comoditys. and all of them are sold to make a profit. not just oil. nomatter where it comes from.

We did!! Or didn't you know that! But it didn't go to the taxpayers! It went to the oil companies so they could raise gas prices and soak you some more while they pay between 2 and 4% of their public gouging gas profits in taxes!!
Hey Trevor, bring a body bag with you, and tell your spouse that the Republicans care so much about her, if you are married, that they are going to show their appreciation by cutting her widow benefits from $25,000 to $13,000 while they give tax cuts to the rich!
One nice Republican told the Widows to "get off their lazy asses and get a job"!! They really think a lot of Vets! I already found that out long ago!!

You Americans have already got most of the contracts for rebuilding Iraq. Well we British are there too. But we are not getting much in the way of lucrative contracts. Just as you are still taking money and interest on what you LENT us in WW11. Yes LENT . You are doing all right .

Well at present Americans are spending or better word investing in Iraq the profit will come at later stage and remember one thing nobody fight for others freedom unless you have your own benefits (best example is Palestine)
All the wars all over the world in recorded history are/were related directly or indirectly to the money sometimes in the name of religion sometimes democracy , liberation bla bla ...

So we invade AND confiscate their resources AND sell it to American oil companies and what the Iraqis get is their freedom to live in a land that doesn't belong to them any more?

I think that was Bush's original plan...and we INVADED a country that was NO REAL THREAT TO US but then ooops seems like the iraqi people don't wanna live in a U.S. colony and give away their natural resources. hmmm ....hey the brits had all kinds of problems in india....but hey the USA will do it better...right?
