It is not "Mouth of Truth" or "La Bocca della Verità". That is another cool Vatican sculpture with an open mouth

It's called the "Mouth of Truth" or "La Bocca della Verità"

The most famous characteristic of the Mouth, however, is its capability of act as lie detector. Starting from the Middle Ages, it was believed that if one told a lie with his hand in the mouth of the sculpture then it would be bitten off. Bocca was placed in the portico of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin church in the 17th century.

Isn't it more related to those ancient Greek theatre masks?
I think it's one of many representations of comedy, one of the emotions theatre sought to inspire in its spectators in ancient times.
(Compare it with some others shown in google images).

I don't know the name but it certainly is a theatrical Roman mask used for plays.

it doesn't look Greek by facial characteristics and the hair. i am going to say that it is Etruscan.

my second answer would be roman, but doubtful.

what makes me mad is that i believe i saw this before... in person...
