Has this pretty much been her sleeping pattern since she was born? Is her pediatrician concerned?
I wish you luck. My son has always been an ... interesting ... sleeper. He was up every hour or two at night for the first fourteen months of his life. Now, at the age of two, he's only up once during the night - however, he only sleeps six or seven hours, total, then is raring to go, save for an hour nap during the day. I sincerely hope your daughter turns out to be a better sleeper than that. Actually, it sounds like she already is. I'd love to be able to sleep six or seven hours at a stretch!
She may very well be getting into her colic period. When our kid was in that period, we had a little luck getting him to sleep in his carseat/infant carrier, which we brought into the house. Other people have reported luck with swaddling and something called a "Miracle Blanket", which looks a lot like a baby straitjacket.
Some have reported good luck combatting colic using a product called "Baby Bliss Gripewater". I suppose we also had luck - each time I gave it to our son, he threw up, which would coincidentally end his shrieking for the night.
I'm sorry for having such lackluster advice, but perhaps it will at least reassure you that your situation isn't uncommon. Of course, if you truly get concerned that your daughter isn't doing well, you can give her pediatrician a call. They'll often give a list of things to watch out for while you're on the phone. The book "What to Expect the First Year" is also really handy.

Sounds possibly like colic.. or is baby getting enough to eat? ( babies at 5 weeks can eat between 3- 6 oz in a sitting, 30 min on each side for nursing ) Try to swaddle baby for naps and maybe gripe water ( you can get it at the pharmacy or like Walgreens ) . . or could try giving her mylacon dropps before each feeding to cut down on her gas.
Even burping baby between ounces seems to help.

My first daughter, who is now 24 years old and pregnant with her first baby, was like that. She rarely slept during the day. She had colic - my mom was a SAINT & stayed with me all the time & we would take turns holding her & rocking her to soothe her. I would have the dr check her out just to make sure there isn't anything more serious but some babies are like that. Good luck to you hon.
