I have an interview with a big software company for the position of a software developer. What kind of questions can I expect in an on-campus first round interview?

Having been on the interviewing side of your situation hundreds of times, hopefully I can help :)

First off, they'll probably ask questions to determine your level of knowledge. Questions about algorithms, basic programming methods, particular questions in your field of specialty. If they're really on the ball, they'll bring a short programming test with them (I always did), which has simple questions you can write out the answers to in just a few minutes IN CODE FORM -- things like, "write a routine in C++ to sort an array of 100 integers from lowest to highest and display the results." I used to have a 10-question written test.

They will also try to find out what your particular areas of interest are (graphics programming, web programming, that sort of thing) and if there are specific areas where you've done work outside classwork simply because it interests you. Be honest here, don't pretend to be interested in something just because you know their company would use it.

They'll also be very interested in your personality (what you like and don't like, what you do outside work or school, what your hobbies are); what kind of work ethic you have; how well you communicate and work with others (good writing and spelling are very important!), etc.

Hope that helps. Best of luck, hope it goes well!

you would be asked undemanding questions like why you want to take on the activity, any suitable journey you have had in the previous of the form of paintings you would be doing. additionally issues like what characteristics you experience you may convey to the area, why you're proper for it and why they could %. you over all the different interviewees. you will in all probability additionally be asked scenario questions the two of how "If blah befell, how might you manage it?" or "supply an occasion of a time once you dealt with blah form of situation." apart from that, they might ask how lots you be attentive to concerning to the enterprise and what form of issues they do. some agencies might run little eventualities just to work out the type you're looking after a situation, nevertheless some won't. see you later as you're ordinary consisting of your solutions (nevertheless you may of course placed fairly an outstanding slant on each thing) you would be ok.
